Neste volume da revista Educação Gráfica, apresentamos o artigo de autoria da professora e pesquisadora Maria Alzira Loureiro, prefaciando esta edição. O artigo aborda a problemática do sistema educacional, em crise face às mutações de todos os sistemas da era industrial em processo de profundas transformações. A autora argumenta com muita clareza seu pensamento sobre a matéria e discute alternativas metodológicas para superação dessa crise, com a visão sistêmica, holística e prospectiva. Os trabalhos publicados nesta edição contribuem de forma inequívoca para uma linha de pensamento e propõem uma reflexão profunda dos temas apresentados com a perspectiva do desafia de um novo modelo de desenvolvimento sustentável para o país.

A GEOMETRIA URBANA COMO INSTRUMENTO PARA O ESTUDO DO CLIMA URBANO
Abstract
This paper shows one way of considering the spatial characteristics of the urban environment - urban geometry - in the study of urban climate. Based on the Ph.D. Thesis entitled "Influence of Urban Geometry on Air Temperature at Pedestrian Level", some units of urban geometry, usually studied by climatologists, are presented here. These units are able to help in architectural instrumentation for the climate study of urban areas.

Abstract This paper presents some examples of image processing used in medical sites on the internet. Advantages and disadvantages on this type of system are noted. Amongst the disadvantages are the observed inadequacy of presently available search engines for finding appropriate sites amid the plethora of published information. Advantages include a reasonable number of useful downloadable applications. Some specific difficulties in image processing for this field are pinpointed.

Abstract
Architectural projects for construction within the neighborhood architecture patrimony of the city of Bauru have to consider the specific regulations for this region. The project regulations for Bauru city architecture patrimony and its neighborhood will be the result of the analysis of the original architecture patrimony. Original properties such as: height, span, volume relations, roofs, materials, publicity panels, colors, uses and density have to be considered in the achitectural project.

O PROCESSO DE CONFIGURAÇÃO URBANA DE UMA CIDADE DO OESTE PAULISTA: SÃO PAULO DOS AGUDOS
Abstract
This work intends to show the urban settlement process of a typical city in the west of São Paulo State, named São Paulo dos Agudos, which is today called Agudos. This is a relevant study because it shows the usual proceedings for the creation of na urban space at end of the 19th Century. From the possession of the land to its street design, as well as its transformation with the arrival of the railroad.

Abstract
Bionics is the study of living or lifelike systems, with the object of discovering new principles, techniques, procedures and processes that may be applicable to the technology within man's reach. This article provides definitions, discusses procedures and presents a classification of living systems in order to facilitate the location and use of solutions used by nature. The article terminates with examples of application of this procedure.

Abstract
The ergonomic design of furniture destined for children, besides characteristics of aesthetics and of comfort/performance, presents a significant parallel to the History of Design itself. A certain interest in proving ergonomically adequate products for children arose from the Industrial Revolution onwards, in particular the principal icons of Design in the form of children's model: Model No 14 / Thonet; Dining-room of the Bloemenwerf house / Van de Velde; "Casa dei Bambini" / Montessori; School of the Holy Family / Gaudí, Furniture of the Bauhaus / Rietveld, Mies van der Rohe, Breuer and others, as well as various projects which had already arisen in developed countries. This conjunction of historical references is today fundamental to every intervention of ergonomics in the design of this class of product.

Abstract
Besides the curricular component, geometry also shows up in the everyday context. The aim of this article is to highlight the importance of its teaching, making clear the value of exercising visual perception, conception, representation and construction, so that it will be possible, in particular, to explore creative imagination.

Abstract
This work seeks to show how the application of computer graphics has helped in the teaching of drawing disciplines in the course of Cartographic Engineering at the São Paulo State University, UNESP, campus Presidente Prudente - SP. First the necessity for computer graphics in the field of Cartographic Engineering is demonstrated, and then how the activities developed in this area have helped the students. Finally, some of the results obtained are shown.

Abstract
The basic slight knowledge of Descriptive Geometry necessary for the understanding of Technical Drawing becomes clearer and is better assimilated when presented through 3D simulation with animation of the model. This work presents a multimidia lesson proposal, developed with features of Hypermedia, in HTML computer language.

Abstract
The constant changes to the landscape, as well as the diferent needs for surface information of the diverse users, lead to the use of computerized systems that optimize the production and updating of maps. In this way modern Cartography is developing to meet such demands through the use of Computer Graphics and Multimedia. Computer graphics allowed the substitution of a traditionally elaborated cartographic product - the graphic map, by a new product - the digital map, a set of cartographic data stored in a form compatible with the computer and that can be presented in the form of the traditional printed map just as it can also be displayed on the monitor screen of a computer. Cartography necessarily involves multiple media and so Multimedia shows itself a viable alternative to integrate the diverse and varied cartographic data and information products. The present article dares to present a brief (and certainly incomplete) retrospective of the last thirty years of introduction of new technologies in the Cartographic Sciences and to demonstrate the impact caused by these on research, on the market and on teaching.

O BINÔMIO DESIGN/ERGONOMIA COMO FATOR DETERMINANTE NO PROJETO DE MOBILIÁRIO PRÉ-ESCOLAR - MOBIPRESC 3.6
Abstract
This paper shows the scientific and technological application of Ergonomics ans Design, in a preschool desk project. The constant presence of this object in children’s education and its influence in the educational process, determined the necessity of this project. In this way, the preschool desk passed to be considered a "Work Station", where the joint aspects of education and child anthropometry, are fundamental to the problem. The development of ergonomic research, characterized by investigations of anthropometric and biomechanical features, resulted in dimensional parameters for the user and for the present furniture. These elements were correlated with aspects of bibliographical research, resulting in a series of recomendations for project. Having as reference the Ergonomic Desing method, a new proposal of the preschool desk was developed, under the name "Mobipresc 3.6", that was selected in the "XI Design Award, Museum of the Brazilian Home" and awarded in the "International Concourse of Design - Herman Miller / Design Biennial 1997".

GEOPROCESSAMENTO APLICADO AO PLANEJAMENTO RURAL E DETECÇÃO DE ÁREAS SUSCETÍVEIS À EROSÃO NA BACIA DO RIBEIRÃO PEDERNEIRAS
Abstact
The Pederneiras basin, located in the center of São Paulo State, between the parallels 22o20' and 22o26' S and the meridians 48o44' and 48o56' WG has it lands valued in terms of soil erodibility and agricultural aptitude through SIG SAMPA 2.0. The results obtained, maps and charts led to the following conclusions: a) Land use is mainly suitable for long cycle cultures, like sugarcane and fruits (56.9%), followed by short cycle cultures, like cereal and vegetables (33,6%), pasture (5,8%) and forestry (3,7%); b) main land limitations for short cycle cultures are consequence of mediun to sand texture soils, with low fertility, medium to high aluminum toxicity, low water store capability and moderate to high erosion susceptibility; c) about 22.6% of the area present null to light soil erosion susceptibility, 46% moderate susceptibility and 31.4% high to very high susceptibility.

Abstact
Cícero Dias is one of the foremost contemporary Brazilian painters. His work can be said to pass through distinct moments, although it does not follow a rigorous chronology and neither are the periods entirely mutually exclusive. In the first phase he approaches fantasy art. From 1940 he envolved slowly towards the abstract, to return to the figurative in the 1960's.

Abstract
The objective of this work is to improve a methodology of education of Geometric Drawing applied to visually impaired students. Evidence of an effective work method was elicited through experiments: the adequacy of the instruments, motor preparation ans tactile perception stimulation are basic requirements for the visually impaired person to draw graphical forms with instruments.

This work presents na experimental study on the life of abrasive discs in cut-off type operations with two conditions of cutting speed. The cutting time is shown with a comparative analysis of the cutting speed.
